Final 2016 posting

Well, Christmas calories certinally took their toll on me this year.  Hopefully, I can get them back off before the first weigh-in for 2017.

Happy New Year, everyone.

2016 - Month 11

Well, it's November and I'm still 23 pounds away from my goal weight.  Even though we had buckets of Halloween candy, I was able to keep that damage to a minimum.   Thanks to my darling bride for boxing it up and taking it all to the office.  I'll be posting future results on the first Wednesday of the month. Feel free to call me out, if I don't.

2016 - Week 32

As Summer draws to a close, I'm still struggling with my weight. My friend Steven Sick inspired me to quit feeling sorry for myself and get back on track.  I'm going to be a bit more consistent with these posts but not clutter your feed.  Therefore, beginning in September, I'll be posting results on the first Wednesday of the month. Feel free to call me out, if I don't.

2016 - Week 27

Wish I could get a handle on these weight swings.  Two weeks ago I reported a 7 pound gain.  Now, I report a 6 pound loss.  While I hope it's not the case, I bet I'll be back up next week.  What a roller coaster ride!

Continuing to learn my new eating plan, and I'll be stepping up cardio and strength training, as much as my foot and shoulder will endure.  Looking forward to what next week might bring.

2016 - Week 25

Not sure what I've done but I'm obviously sabotaged my progress since the scales are going the wrong direction.  This week, I'm going to log every morsel that crosses my lips and have it evaluated by a professional.  I've got to get this under control!  Thanks for your indulgence, I'm headed back to weekly check-in's.

Continuing to learn my new eating plan, and I'll be stepping up cardio and strength training, as much as my foot and shoulder will endure.  Looking forward to what next week might bring.

After a weekend of not-so-clean eating, I'm very pleased with this small loss.  I'm still way behind what my intended loss was but I'll just keep chipping away until I find my metabolism "sweet spot".

Darn, too many of Cousin Karen's cinnamon rolls last weekend!  Had to make a road trip for yet another funeral and apparently over did it a bit.  Getting back on track, as I type.

2016 - Week 17

Interesting, same weight as last week.  I don't understand the physiology but I've been told it takes three days for an eating indulgence (cheat meal) to appear on the scales and three additional days to process it out of your system.  I'm going with that!

Continuing to learn my new eating plan, and I'll be stepping up cardio and strength training, as much as my foot and shoulder will endure.  Looking forward to what next week might bring.

2016 - Week 15

I'm always reluctant to post a big loss, in case it's a fluke.  Apparently, my "extra effort" payed off this week. Now, if I can just keep it going...

2016 - Week 6

Another frustrating week.  If there is a silver lining, lots of folks I've talked to are having similar frustrations.  As an example - On January 1st, the gym was packed; last night, I was the only person there.  Thanks to my good friend, Chad Griffin, I have a new eating plan.  He, and my Wife, think I'm eating too few calories.  I'll continue stepping up cardio and strength training, as much as my foot and shoulder will endure.  Looking forward to what next week might bring.

Beginning weight:  255.1

2016 - Week 5

I certinally understand the frustration many folks express while trying to lose weight.  The caloric deficit method is not working (as well) for me this time.  I'm stepping up cardio and strength training, as much as my foot and shoulder will endure.  Looking forward to what next week might bring.

Yet another restart

As the new year begins, and my pants would hardly button, I  reflected on my fitness failures of the last few years.  Due to a series of stresses, reoccurring and persistent training injuries, and very poor eating habits - especially over the holidays - I have gained a ton of weight.  For those of you that don't know, here is my fitness story.

I've been fat all my life.  I wore "husky" (that's what we called fat kid clothes in the 60's) clothes in Elementary School.  High School and College we not much better.  Fast forward to 2009; I had ballooned to 287 pounds.  After a very strict diet and several months, I weighed 214.  I lost 72 pounds.  I lost so much weight that my Niece's daughter didn't even recognize me.  Over time, I let that weight creep up to where as of January 1, 2016, I weighed 255.

In 2016, I have set my goal to lose a pound a week.  My target weight is 200.  Even at 200, I will be considered "overweight" according to the BMI index.  So, how am I going to accomplish this loss?

  1. I will be posting my results every Wednesday morning to Facebook and my fitness blog.
  2. I will "eat clean" at least 80% of the time.
  3. I will visit the gym at least four times a week; two cardio, two strength training.
  4. I will stumble, but I will persist!
Thanks for your support and feel free to "call me out", as needed.
